OVERVIEW

Two popular temporary work visa types provide a pathway to a residence from work visa in NZ after you are employed in your role for 24 months in New Zealand.

Why should you dive into this article? Because it holds the key to transforming your New Zealand work visa into a residence visa, showcasing two promising options: a Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa and a Long-Term Skills Shortage List Work Visa.

Two popular temporary work visa types are:

Talent (Accredited Employer)

If you can secure a job offer with a New Zealand Accredited Employer and meet a certain salary threshold, you can obtain this work visa with a validity of 30 months.

You must be 55 years old or under, and after 24 months on the job, you may seek Residence from Work. This visa is usually processed faster than other work visas because your employer has already ‘passed’ many INZ requirements to become accredited.

Long-Term Skills Shortage List

If your occupation is listed in a Long Term Skills Shortage List (LTSSL) and you meet the qualification/ work experience criteria for that listed occupation, then you can obtain this work visa with a validity of 30 months.

After working for your NZ employer for 24 months under any of the above work visas, you are then eligible to apply for a residence visa known as Residence from work.

These work visas will be replaced by an Accredited Employer work visa in July 2022.

The last date to renew any of these visas is 31 October 2021; after this date, Immigration NZ will not accept any new work visas in these categories.
