What is the Transport Sector Work to Residence Visa?

This visa is for skilled workers in New Zealand’s transportation industry who have an AEWV and have worked in approved transportation jobs without stopping for 24 months.

Some of the jobs that are included are freight drivers, bus and coach drivers, marine deckhands, and more. To be eligible, you must earn at least the median wage in New Zealand, pass health and character checks, and work for a company that is recognized.

You can apply for residence after working for two years. This lets you live and work in New Zealand for as long as you want.

Who Can Get This Visa?

You might be able to get it if you:

  • Get an Accredited Employer Work Visa from a New Zealand employer.
  • Immigration NZ says you can work full-time in a transport job.
  • Worked in this job for 24 months straight
  • Pay at least the median wage
  • Take tests on health, character, and English language

Jobs that often qualify are:

  • Drivers of freight trucks
  • Drivers of Buses and Coaches
  • Deckhands on ships
  • Drivers for couriers

If your job isn’t on this list, you might still be able to get a visa through other means, like the Skilled Migrant Category.
