What is the Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300)?

The Prospective Marriage Visa—also called the fiancé visa—lets the overseas partner of an eligible sponsor come to Australia to get married. You must marry your sponsor within 9 months of getting the visa. After that, you can apply for the Partner Visa (Subclass 820/801) while you’re in Australia.

This visa is for couples who:

  • Have a real committed relationship
  • Are engaged to marry
  • Want to marry in Australia (or sometimes overseas before the visa runs out)
  • Have met face-to-face at least once

When you get this visa, you can:

  • Come to Australia and stay for up to 9 months
  • Work and study in Australia (without money from the government)
  • Travel in and out of Australia as you like during the visa period

Ask for a Partner Visa (Subclass 820) after you get married

Can I Get the Subclass 300 Visa?

To get the Prospective Marriage Visa, you need to meet these main rules:

  • You need to be outside Australia when you submit your application and when they grant the visa
  • You and your partner must have met face-to-face
  • You must plan to get married within the visa timeframe
  • Your sponsor must be an Australian citizen permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • Both of you must be 18 years or older
  • You must pass health and character checks

Our team at Ezy Immigration can evaluate your relationship history, assist in collecting supporting documents, and make sure you’re submitting a solid application from the start.

The Visa Process: Step-by-Step Help from Ezy Immigration

The guardian visa lasts as long as the child’s student visa. If your child studies longer, you’ll need to ask for a visa extension too.

If your child finishes school or exits New Zealand, your visa loses its validity — you must leave the country or submit an application for a new visa with a different purpose.

1. One-on-One Consultation

We begin with a thorough review of your relationship and situation to make sure the Subclass 300 visa suits your needs.

2. Collecting Supporting Documents

Proving your relationship can seem daunting, from photos to messages, travel records to statements. We’ll assist you to collect the right evidence that satisfies Department of Home Affairs standards.

3. Sending Your Application

Our skilled agents will create and submit your application with care and speed ensuring it matches current immigration rules.

4. Wait for Processing (As You Get Ready to Marry)

Visa processing can take different amounts of time—right now it’s about 15–34 months. We’ll walk you through what to expect and how to follow the rules during this period.

5. Post-Visa: Transition to Partner Visa

After your marriage, we’ll support you in submitting your onshore Partner Visa (Subclass 820/801) application to enable you to remain in Australia .

Common Reasons for Visa Refusals (and How We Help Avoid Them)

Subclass 300 visa sees quite a few rejections because of:

  • Paperwork that’s not complete or doesn’t match up
  • Not enough proof that the relationship is real
  • Failing to show plans to marry within the time the visa allows

At Ezy Immigration, our job is to help you steer clear of these problems. We look over your application as a case officer would and we make sure nothing is left up to chance.

Moving to Permanent Residency

After marriage, you can switch from the Subclass 300 visa to the Partner Visa (Subclass 820/801)—a two-step process that leads to permanent residency.

  • First, you apply for the temporary Partner visa (820)
  • Two years later, you can get the permanent Partner visa (801)

We help you through each stage—so your future in Australia stays secure from your first arrival to your final residency approval.
